i haven't touched modelling in awhile because i got a PS3/
Resistance:Fall of Man and an X360/
Gears of War. Over at
gametrailer.com they are doing a
vs. segment pitting these 2 titles against eachother. Obviously Gears of War is sweeping it. I mean there are how many X360's out there compared to PS3's? 2nd generation game vs. a launch title? please... Anyways after playing both, I prefered Resistance:Fall of Man.
GoW is a cool game, but crappy frame rates, buggy controls and AI (some of boss monsters didn't even fight. wtf??? berserkers were harder than the "bosses"), and horrid LOD drops had me fighting the game itself a lot more than playing it. An example for me is like the running cam is cool, but you can't see where the heck you are running, and if you come close to a wall, you lock on to it in cover mode when you didn't want to. My AI buddies constantly walk up to the berserker and die, forcing me to lose. Stupid DOM, GET OUTTA THE WAY!!!! he just stands there next to it, i don't understand what he is thinking. However, major points for the look of the game (graphic anomolies aside) and the pushing the shooter genre. I loved the reload minigame.
Resistance was the one out of the two i really wanted to keep playing though. I don't notice nearly the FPS drops i saw in GoW. The AI wasn't as stupid (all the enemies fought back). I prefer FPS to TPS so that isa bit of bias on my part as well. The weapons in Resistance blow GoW's away. GoW are vey basic (yeah the chainsaw is fun, but that is just one compared to almost all of R:FoM) while R;FoM covers the basic, but adds a bunch of creative sci-fi guns (but feel realistic in their tech). This great variety handles personal play styles and situations to allow a bigger variety of combat situations. Plus all the vehicles and a more cohesive story just made a more enjoyable experience for me. I certainly felt more like i was in an actual war with R:FoM than GoW which was too
Michael Bay action movie to me.
So maybe i will go back to modelling now that i got playing Gears of Resistance out of my system...
